Rusty Cawley, Public Awareness Officer and Communications Specialist for Homeland Security

In his capacity as communications specialist for homeland security at Texas A&M University, Rusty Cawley serves as public awareness officer for the FAZD Center.

He consults with the director, Dr. Neville P. Clarke, on the mission of the Center's public outreach programs, then manages the day-to-day progress of those programs. His responsibilities include marketing, publicity and the FAZD Center' Web site.

Cawley joined Texas A&M in February 2006 after four years as director of media relations at Levenson & Hill, the largest and oldest independent advertising firm in Dallas-Fort Worth, where he advised clients on managing their public reputations during crisis situations. Clients included Zale Corp., the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Central Dallas Association, the Islamic Association of North Texas, the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, the Town of Addison, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Carrier North Texas Corp., Church’s Chicken, Alon USA (Fina), ABC Radio Network, Ascension Health, Cellular One, Fulbright & Jaworski, Phoenix Corp. (Black-Eyed Pea Restaurants), HEB Central Market, Brierley & Partners and KERA Public Broadcasting.

Prior to that he served for four years as the finance reporter for the Dallas Business Journal, for five years as the publisher of a Dallas-area suburban newspaper, the Rockwall Success, and for three years as the editor of the Bryan-College Station Eagle.

In addition to his work with the FAZD Center, Cawley is the public awareness officer for the Intergrative Center for Homeland Security at Texas A&M University.
