Assistant Director for Special Projects: Terry L. Nipp, Ph.D.

Terry NippDr. Terry Nipp is the FAZD Center's assistant director for special projects.

He works closely with the FAZD Center’s Information and Analysis Systems. 

In February of 2003, Dr. Nipp was appointed as the executive director of the National Institute for Agricultural Security (NIAS).  NIAS facilitates collaboration and communication between the State Agricultural Experiment Stations and Colleges of Agriculture at Land-Grant Universities with federal agencies on biosecurity issues as they impact the nation’s agriculture and food systems. 

Dr. Nipp also serves at the executive director of the Sun Grant Association, an organization of universities dedicated to the development of biomass for bioenergy and bioproducts through research.  With support from the Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Agriculture, SGI is currently supporting biomass and bioenergy research and education projects in over 35 states, as well as supporting the development of a national system of GIS mapping and bioinformatics-based decision tools.

Dr. Nipp worked for the Board on Agriculture of the National Research Council, National Academy of Sciences.  He served as a Congressional Science Fellow for the American Society of Agronomy and worked for the Committee on Agriculture in the US House of Representatives. 

Dr. Nipp received a Ph.D. in Crop Science from Oklahoma State University in 1987.  He received an M.A. from the Stanford Food Research Institute; an M.S. in Biology from Stanford University; and, B.A.’s in Human Biology and Political Science from Stanford University.
