When a highly contagious animal disease breaks out, the most difficult stakeholders to alert are often the non-commercial owners of livestock and poultry. Unfortunately, these "backyard" herds and flocks are often the source of large scale outbreaks of catastrophic animal diseases.
The FAZD Center is answering this problem with a model network for conveying alerts from state veterinarians to these non-commercial owners through local feed stores. The model is called the County Animal Security and Health Network (CASHN).
In this presentation, FAZD Center investigators Andy Vestal and Shannon Degenhart explain how CASHN works, how it was field tested, and how it can be implemented in any state.
