Value of Paraguay’s beef exports could drop 30 percent in 2012 due to FMD outbreaks, economists predict.

The value of Paraguayan beef exports could drop 30% this year compared to the previous year given the loss of markets following two outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Centre for Analysis of the Paraguayan Economy (CADEP) said.

According to estimates Paraguay beef sales this year could be in the range of US$500 million, down from US$725 million last year. Paraguay is among the world’s 10 leading exporters of beef.
