Research team launches African Swine Fever Reverse Vaccinology Project

The FAZD Center launched its African Swine Fever Reverse Vaccinology Project with a kickoff meeting on Jan. 6.

The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the research team and present on current work to date with the targeted in silico candidate analysis and selection.

The project will utilize a novel approach to target selection and expression in the hopes of generating a potential lead vaccine candidate for future studies.

The research team discussed a decision criteria weighting system for candidate down-selection and received input from DHS on the most critical targets on which to focus.

Attending the meeting were Dr. Garry Adams and Dr. Waithaka Mwangi, Texas A&M University; Dr. Mangkey Bounpheng, Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory; Dr. David Brake and Dr. John Neilan, Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate; Dr. Lance Ford, Dr. Joe Krebs and Dr. Sandesh Subramanya, BIOO; Dr. Yongqun He and Dr. Allen Xiang of the University of Michigan; and Dr. Jorge Osorio, University of Wisconsin.

Representing the FAZD Center were Dr. Tammy Beckham, director; Dr. Melissa Berquist, associate director; and Dr. Alfonso Clavijo, co-theme leader for Biological Systems.
