Department of Homeland Security Career Development Fellowship Awards in Zoonotic and Animal Disease Defense
We welcome applications from students pursuing studies at any university affiliated with the National Center for Foreign Animal and Zoonotic Disease Defense (FAZD Center), the Center of Excellence for Emerging and Zoonotic Diseases (CEEZAD), and the Center for Food Security and Public Health (CFSPH) as part of a new Graduate Level Career Development Program in Zoonotic and Animal Disease Defense (ZADD) offered by this consortium.
As part of a renewal grant from the Department of Homeland Security, Science & Technology Directorate, and in partnership with Texas A&M University, Kansas State University, the University of California at Davis, and Iowa State University, the ZADD Consortium Career Development Program plans to award a number of graduate fellowships in mission critical areas related to the Homeland Security Biodefense sector. These will include the following DHS areas:
- Awards on Food Agriculture Security
- Awards in Biological Threats and Countermeasures
- Awards in Infrastructure Protection
- Awards in Risk and Decisions Sciences
- Awards in Emergency Preparedness and Response
While the award titles differ, all five categories of awards will involve affiliation with and involvement in the ZADD Consortium Career Development Program (CDP) and the Hispanic Leaders in Agriculture and the Environment Program (HLAE) at Texas A&M University. These prestigious awards will be given to students demonstrating a career interest in foreign animal, zoonotic and/or emerging disease research. Applicants research must fall within the domain of the FAZD Center, CEEZAD and/or CFSPH mission space. For more information about each Center, please go to the following links:

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, hold a 3.30 GPR or higher and major in a Homeland Security Science, Techonology, Engineering and Mathematics (HS-STEM) discipline that aligns with the mission space of the consortium. Applicants must be willing to attend a mandatory DHS-sponsored career development conference in Washington DC, attend one FAZD Center or CEEZAD annual meeting and conduct a 10-week internship in a Homeland Security field. Applicants must be willing to attend all activities of the HLAE program. Finally, applicants must be willing to commit a one-year Homeland Security related employment experience.
Spring 2012 applications are due electronically on Friday, April 13, 2012. Decisions will be made by May 11, 2012.
